Lā Kūʻokoʻa 1843 & Medicine Creek Treaty 1854
Lā Kūʻokoʻa - History: The term is most famously associated with the Hawaiian national holiday Lā Kūʻokoʻa (Independence Day), which commemorates the formal recognition of the Hawaiian Kingdom's sovereignty by Great Britain and France on November 28, 1843. This day has been celebrated as a symbol of national resilience and the enduring spirit of the Hawaiian people and their connection to their land. Learn More
Medicine Creek Treaty - History: An agreement between the United States and several tribes in Washington Territory, the Nisqually, Puyallup, Muckleshoot and Squaxin Island tribes. In exchange for giving up millions of acres of land, the tribes were to receive reservations, a cash payment, and permanent access to their traditional fishing and hunting grounds. Learn More
